Why I Travel Solo

So you want to know why I prefer to travel alone, alone with my thoughts and the road, traveling without inhibitions and without “friends”, picking up pals along the way just to leave them behind when the journey ends? So you want to know why I travel solo?

My soul wanders and my feet follow; that’s why I travel solo.

Spontaneity is my companion and I never know where she’ll go; that’s why I travel solo.

Friends, like fish, begin to stink after three days, much less a week or more; that’s why I travel solo.

Few people share my love of culture, history, language, and silence; that’s why I travel solo.

I’m like a river, carving my own course, letting the earth guide where I flow; that’s why I travel solo.

I make plans to leave them with wild abandon when something better comes along; that’s why I travel solo.

I’m a global citizen, cosmopolitan, and everyone in the world is a potential friend; that’s why I travel solo.

People you meet on the journey won’t taint the memory when they leave; that’s why I travel solo.

I’ve archived my favorite photographs because they’re filled with alligators and fake laughs; that’s why I travel solo.

I’ve cut too many false friends out of photos of places I’ve been, carving up my memories so the pain will end; that’s why I travel solo.
